AICS Support
Student Support Circle (for Primary & Secondary)
The Student Support system at the AICS aims to give all students maximum support and opportunity to develop. Along with the class teachers the following members of staff are involved in the guidance of students:

The Confidentiality person is always available for confidential discussions with students and staff regarding any matters of personal concern. The Caretaker is responsible for matters of student safety and discipline. The Mentor in Secondary School conducts an age-appropriate Mentor programme, monitors students’ overall academic and personal progress, and is the first contact person for students and parents/guardians.
The SEN Specialist is responsible for Special Needs assessment and support for academic needs. The SEN Specialist in Primary and Secondary School is responsible for learning support. When concerns arise about a student, the classroom teacher (Primary) or Mentor (Secondary) will contact the SEN Specialist to adjust teaching strategies and possibly make a referral. The student’s parents are always informed. The SEN Specialist is available to make observations, carry out psycho-educational screening and/or appropriate assessments. The SEN Specialist will hold a follow up conference with the students’ teacher and parents/guardians to discuss the report and provide practical advice. After the assessment, support can be offered for students with learning, social/emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. The SEN Specialist works with the teacher and the student using developmentally appropriate intervention programmes. When remediation instruction is recommended, Individual Education Plans are implemented and Progress Reports are written and updated regularly. To obtain further information students may be referred externally to outside specialists for further diagnostic assessment or therapy. Private academic tuition after school is also available. This incurs extra costs.
Further in-house testing may be required for SEN students in order to maximise the support AICS can offer your child. In addition, you may be asked to complete further testing with outside specialists. If, after a period of no less than 6 weeks in school, we feel that we cannot meet the academic, social/emotional, behavioural or physical needs of your child, we reserve the right to transfer him/her to an establishment that we (the school) believe can better accommodate these needs, or ask that you do so. In this event, all fees paid (with the exception of the Registration fee) will be refunded.
The Careers Counsellor is responsible for Careers and Subject Choice Counselling for the Secondary students. He sometimes acts as a Secondary Family Liaison. The Leaders for Learning, with others in stages 1 and 2 of the student support circle, work together in the Student Support Team. The Headmaster, with the Leaders for Learning and others in stages 1-3, work together in the Student Support Team Plus.
