Day and After school Care
Day Care & After School Care (via SKON)
De Blauwe Rotspinguïn (a member of the Blauwe Dieren, or Blue Animals childcare group) provides a range of child-care services at the Amsterdam International Community School.
We provide day care for children aged 0 to 12 and after school care for children aged 4 – 12. We also offer responsible, reliable childcare in the school holidays.
The Blauwe Rotspinguin is a childcare centre where your child will feel at home. The central focus of our activities is encouraging your child to spend meaningful and enjoyable leisure time with other children.
After-school childcare care (4-12yrs)
We begin when school finishes for your child. During term time you can choose between:
- short afternoon (from approx. 14.30 hrs to 18.30 hrs)
- a long afternoon (from approx. 11.30 hrs to 18.30 hrs) .
School holiday care
During the school holidays your child comes to AICS (De Blauwe Rotspinguin)on the same days as during term time, but for the whole day. We make it a real holiday. In the holidays De blauwe rotspinguïn is open from 7.30 to 18.30 hrs.
Day care (0-4yrs)
The blauwe dieren childcare centres also provide day care for children aged 0 to 4. We are open all year round except on nationally recognised holidays for at least 10 1⁄2 hours to fit in with parents’ working hours. Day care at de blauwe rotspinguïn is available from Monday to Friday from 7.30 to 18.30 hrs. There are 5 groups: 2 baby groups, 2 toddler groups and one 3+ group.
Lunchtime supervision
De blauwe rotspinguïn provides lunchtime supervision from 12.15 to 13.15 hrs on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The children are looked after by a professional coordinator and volunteers. The manager has ultimate responsibility for the lunchtime childcare. You can take out a subscription for a set number of days at s 1.50 a day. You can choose to make payment every six months or every year.
Additional childcare is also available on an ad hoc basis: this can be arranged with the manager of the childcare centre (for after school and in the holidays).
Language used
At de blauwe rotspinguïn both Dutch and English are spoken, in keeping with the international character of the AICS. We consult with the parents of the child before deciding which language we will use with the child. The way in which we use the two languages is described in the Educational Work Plan, which is available for perusal at the childcare centre.
