The AICS Just Keeps Growing!

I joined the AICS in the middle of its very first year, back in 2004. There were around 15
students, and I knew them all by name. At that time, I never believed we would, or even could,
grow to a staggering 400 students!

Many of you probably know that we moved into a new and bigger building in August 2007. The
light airy feel of our school plus the new and improved facilities were beginning to attract many
new parents. By the middle of that school year, we had 250 students.

Part of my job is to show prospective families around our school. I was seeing an average of 18
families each week! Application Forms were pouring in, and it became obvious that the space we
already had would not be sufficient. The decision was made to expand and open up another
floor.

In August 2008 we opened our new section of the AICS. We now have 3 floors on the right hand
side of the building, and one floor on the left. This enabled us to double our Primary groups 1-5,
giving us space for 260 Primary children. We have nearly reached that number.

In the Secondary School, we doubled MYP Years 1, 3 and 4. We have 150 students at present.
Our new floor houses the MYP 1 home-rooms, language classrooms, a Diploma Programme
study area plus our new arts department. We have a visual arts room, a design and technology
room, plus 3 music rooms. We also have a newcomer to this floor. The volunteer organisation
“Access” has their office here. They run a free help-line and information service for ex-pats.
This ties in nicely with our “community” theme.

The AICS will remain at our current home until 2012 when we will move for one last time…..but
that’s another story!
